KEVIN LAWRENCE
Chief Meteorologist

I am honored to be North Dakota’s only Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM), a distinction from the American Meteorological Society. This television seal of approval is the highest achievement one can obtain in broadcast meteorology.

My earliest thoughts were centered on weather. There was no guessing all through childhood when I “grew up”, my job had to involve some aspect of weather. I’m often asked why I like snow so much. I guess the answer comes from living in Los Angeles the first thirteen years of my life, where it never snowed. I remember staring at snow-capped mountains east of L.A. wondering what it would be like to live where it snowed! That dream became a reality when I moved to Kansas City in 1984. Fourteen years later, North Dakota became my new home. What a weather paradise! What better place than right here to experience all types of great weather. Although I am frequently teased, I am not shy to say I enjoy cold and snowy weather. Instead of gazing at distant snow-capped mountains, I can look out the window!

My family is my life. My beautiful wife LuWanna is a North Dakota native! My three children, Brandon, and twins Logan and Kelsey are the joys of my life and were born here in the Peace Garden State. Happiness to me is spending time with them (perhaps playing in the snow!)

My credentials include the CBM designation from the American Meteorological Society, and the National Weather Association Broadcast Seal of Approval. I have a college degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Kansas with special emphasis on flash flood producing thunderstorms and winter storms.
