We`ve been reminding you every day that NBC North Dakota News is switching over exclusively to a digital signal on Monday.
This week, we`ve told you who would need a converter box and how to hook one up.
If you watch us on cable or satellite, you`re already set.
But if you need an antenna and a converter box, there are lots of things that can cause your TV signal to not work.
If a 50-year-old RCA Victor television will work after being connected to a converter box, then any TV should, too. Here`s a look at some common problems you might have.
You`ve hooked everything up, but all you get is snow. If you`re in an area far from one of our towers and you barely got our channel before, you might not be able to receive our digital signal. That`s because with digital, you either get the signal or you don`t, there`s no in between. It is possible a larger, rooftop antenna might help in this case.
You might also not have the right antenna. You`ll want to get one that can receive both VHF which is the rabbit ears and UHF, which is the circle antenna. In Bismarck, NBC is sent out over UHF. In Dickinson and Williston, it`s VHF.
A lot of old televisions don`t have a connector that will accept a co-ax cable. In that case, you`ll need something that takes that co-ax connection and converts it to these older style connectors."
Then all you have to do is hook it right into your old television and tune it to channel three. If you don`t see anything on channel three, it`s possible you may have to turn to channel four. You can change the channel that your converter box sends to by going into its setup menu.
Finally, if you get our signal, the picture might look smaller. This is normal and is easily fixed by changing the zoom setting on your converter box so that you get the full-sized picture.
And even though you`ll be able to get our signal with a converter box, you might have trouble receiving other channels that have not yet switched to digital.
To avoid any problems, make sure you buy a converter box that has the analog pass-through feature.
