Here to Help in Linton | Video

Faith and hope have surfaced above the flood waters in Linton.

Christian and Jewish relief agencies have poured into town to help disaster victims clean up and repair homes that were submerged when the Beaver Creek overflowed its banks.

Volunteers from Operation Blessing have descended on Linton and are busy ripping apart water logged homes and helping flood victims begin to put their lives back together.

"We`re just a bunch of farm kids and we know how to hal junk out, it`s rewarding, we`re doing the Lord`s work," says Brian Unruh, who, along with 15 other volunteers from Grafton drove four hours to help out complete strangers.

"They`re an absolute God send," says flood victim Robert Teske.

Flood water filled the basement and part of the first flood of Teske`s home.

"Without these people, Operation Blessing, there would be no way possible I could get this thing cleaned out, it`s a blessing that they came," he says.

Relief workers from all over the country are helping clean up seventy homes that were damaged by flooding.

"They`re very good workers, they`re very hard workers, putting in a lot of hours and getting it done," says Susan Schumacher, a Linton flood victim.

Operation Blessing originally came to North Dakota to help flood victims in Fargo, but when the cities dikes held back the Red River, they diverted their attention to Linton.

"Operation Blessing likes to focus on those towns that are lost or forgotten and sh when we found Linton, whether Fargo breaks or not, we really need to adopt this community, so we came here," says the group`s director Jody Herrington.

Operation Blessing is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. That relief agency is partnering with volunteers from Samaritan`s Purse out of Boone, North Carolina, and the Nechama Jewish Response Team headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota to bailout disaster victims in Linton.

"It`s really heart warming, we`re so thankful to have them here," says flood victim Harriet Haak.

Operation Blessing plans to be in Linton for another two weeks, then depending on what happens with the Red River, these volunteers may relocated to Fargo to help food victims there.

If you would like to help with the cleanup effort in Linton, call Operation Blessing, a non-denominational relief agency, at 701-321-0180.
