The warm temperatures are melting snow and causing rivers and creeks to flow.
A gradual melt is what many are hoping for, still, the melting is causing problems for some.
Near Surrey on April 7th, water from a creek wasn`t draining due to a clogged culvert. The quickly rising water was threatening this home just west of Surrey. The family called the county for help. Inmates from the Ward County Jail sandbagged around the home alongside students from Surrey School. The Ward County Highway Department unplugged the culvert a short time later.
"I thought it was great they got people really fast and I was impressed with the help we got really fast and I would thank everyone who came out. I don`t know what the end result will be, if we are going to save our house," says homeowner Afton Basden.
Inmates from the Ward County Jail have been a big part of the flood fight so far as they have filled sandbags and helped protect floods. Ward County Sheriff Vern Erck says he will petition the judge to see that their efforts are rewarded.
