Money Available for Flood Affected Land | Video
4/7/2009
The federal government says they’ll take your troublesome, flood-ridden land off your hands.

A government program is offering landowners money for their property to help ease problems associated with flooding.

The money comes from an easement component of the emergency watershed protection program.

The easements are an effective alternative in reducing the risk to life and property on land that floods frequently.

"This is good for the environment. It`s good for vegetation and it helps restore the life of the property," says Jerry Wingenbach, Ward County District Conservationist.

To be eligible, your land must have been effected by flood within the last 12 months or have a repeated history of flooding. You can pick up an application at the local NRCS office. The deadline to sign up for the program is April 10th.
