National Guard officials say the erosion has increased around a LaMoure County dam.
Lt. Col. Rick Smith, a Guard spokesman, says 10 commercial dump trucks are bringing rock to create a secondary pool to shore up the spillway of the Cottonwood Creek Dam.
He says as of this afternoon, a total of 291 one-ton sandbags had been placed at the site.
Smith says crews have built a secondary dike to try to redirect the flow of the water.
Officials say the dam is about 20 miles from the nearest community and the greatest threat is to area farms and roads. Nearby farms already have been evacuated. |
