Lake Darling Stops Water Flow | Video
4/20/2009
There is no more water flowing out of the Lake Darling dam.

On April 20th the National Weather Service released a revised runoff forecast and it predicts less runoff than originally suspected. To conserve water and to try to achieve a full supply level behind the dam, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service chose to shut the dam. Now that the flood event is nearly over, the dam will be operated for wildlife habitat.

"The U.S. Corps of Engineers is still involved but now we will be working more closely with Sask Water and the state of North Dakota. We will be regulating flows and make sure to get to the full supply level," says Kelly Hogan the Souris River Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex Project Leader.

Hogan says while we don`t know the flow that will come from the dams in Canada there is plenty of storage at Lake Darling.
