Grass fires are common this time of year and many are started purposely.
Thursday afternoon a farmer started a controlled burn without telling officials and the Burlington Fire Department received a call about the fire.
When firefighters arrived they were indeed needed.
"What happens is people just drive-by and everyone`s got a cell phone they call in a fire. We call everybody from work and sometimes it’s needless. This one we were needed which is great, but if you are going to have a controlled burned make sure you call it in," says Rex Weltikol, Minot Rural Fire Chief
It is important to be aware of weather conditions, especially wind, when starting a controlled fire. |
