Highway-21 Treasure Hunt | Video
Andrew Keller
6/19/2009
The annual event is called the Highway 21 Treasure Hunt for a reason, because as the saying goes, one person`s junk is another person`s treasure. People from all over the state, even out of state, are flocking to the houses and communities off this old country road to stop, shop, and deal.

"A lot has gone, but we have purses, chairs, little tables, just nick-knacks, you name it, we just want to clean it out," says one of the yard sale hosts, Nancy Belland.

"We`ve found a snowblower, a bed spread, and tape recorders," says Laura Olson who made the trip to the Highway 21 sales from Slope County.

Olson had hopes of making the 100 mile trip to St. Anthony by night`s end. But, by this afternoon, she doubted she`d make it any further.

"They had 28 sales and I don`t think we went to all of them," she laughs.

It`s an opportunity for Gail Doe to put the money raised selling her no longer wanted items to a good cause.

"All the proceeds from our rummage sale here today will go to the Relay for Life, and they`re looking for a cure, and we want a cure now!" says Doe.

Donna Wheeling and her friends came from Watford City to shop until they drop.

"We heard about this and had to come check it out," says Wheeling.

"We put it all in a rummage, we put stickers on them, so they can buy it," says Dylan Plaggemeyer, a young kid who was out to make a few dollars off unwanted toys.

Rummage sales will continue on Highway 21 tomorrow. The treasure hunt runs from St. Anthony all the way to New England.
