North Dakota regulators have approved a new wind farm in the east central part of the state, despite complaints about noise.
North Dakota`s Public Service Commission concluded most of the proposed wind towers in Griggs and Steele counties will be far enough away from homes to meet federal noise guidelines.
One of the 80 wind tower locations will have to be changed because it`s too close to a rural bed and breakfast business near Luverne. The owner of the Volden Farm says wind towers will hurt her business because customers expect quiet in a rural setting.
The proposed tower that is too close was almost 2,300 feet away. The commission says a second tower that is 2,820 feet away doesn`t have to move.
Commissioner Tony Clark says it`s the first time in North Dakota that a wind project has generated significant opposition.
The wind project will generate up to 120 megawatts of electricity. |
