Some people are celebrating their town`s 125th birthday.
The party in Northwood, North Dakota begins just short of two years after a tornado devastated that town.
Nearly two years after a massive tornado damaged much of Northwood, folks here are ready to show everyone, what a lot of hard work can do.
"Everyone has put a lot of work and effort into this and you can probably see it if you look real close in any of our faces," says Marcy Douglas, the Northwood City Administrator. "But, if you look around and see the progress in the Community, its been well worth it. It`s a great community."
The finishing touches are being put on store fronts down on Main Street. Buildings that were severely damaged have been removed. and after losing around 160 residents following the tornado, the mayor says most have returned.
"Yeah, our downtown is looking good," says mayor Richard Johnson. "Our population is coming back. We`re just about at 1,000 people again. Things are looking up for us."
The centerpiece of this weekend`s celebration will be the dedication of their new, $15 million school.
Mayor Johnson says when it opens for business this fall, it will also play a big part in the town`s economic recovery.
The celebration continues through Sunday. |
