Take a look at some of the footage from last year`s Champions Ride Rodeo at the Home on the Range ranch. This Sunday, the event will be back buckin` in the Badlands.
"You`re not going to go any place other than the National Finals Rodeo to see this good of stock and this good of cowboys together," says Ted Tescher, on the Home on the Range rodeo board.
Before we tell you why the best of the best compete in this, here`s a little history on Home on the Range. It`s a non-profit, working ranch in Sentinel Butte that was created for the purpose of helping strengthen troubled teens through rehabilitation, support, and Christ. This weekend`s rodeo is the facility`s big fundraiser.
"Everybody that buys a ticket to this rodeo, it`s a direct contribution to Home on the Range. It will help with all their programs at Home on the Range," says board member Joe LaDuke.
The Cowboys that compete at the Champions Ride do it for more than just winning the event. They want the kids at the Home on the Range to be champions themselves.
"A lot of these guys are coming in here just because they know how Home on the Range works, what they accomplish, what they do with the kids," says LaDuke.
"This is awesome, when you have cowboys like Jesse Kruze, Shaun Stroh, Cody Wright, Jesse Bail, Dusty Hausauer, the top cowboys like that. It`s just awesome, because they believe how important the mission is for us," says Home on the Range spokesperson Jolene Obrigewitch.
Saddle Bronc rider Shaun Stroh appeared in the National Finals Rodeo last year and his saddle collection speaks for itself. Stroh, a Dickinson resident, says he likes the event because it`s a chance for his family to watch and for a good cause.
"For me, it`s pretty important for me. I came and watched it for a long time, and when I finally got to come, I was excited as heck to come and be able to compete with these guys. So to be able to come back and visit it again is pretty amazing," says Stroh.
He says he`s excited to saddle up against the top cowboys on Sunday, so saddle up and head on out. The rodeo is Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for children, and a family pack can be purchased for $40.
