Mandan Tomorrow | Video

For the last two years, Mandan has been working on redevelopment and making it into what the people want. For months we`ve been telling you about the Mandan Vision Plan Project and its goal for businesses, schools and residents. The people of Mandan have been polled and Thursday night, these results went before the elected officials to see what the next step is in achieving their goals.

The official name for the project is Mandan Tomorrow. After 15 focus groups, personal interviews, and about 1000 surveys all reflecting what the people of Mandan want for their community, the next step for the Mandan Tomorrow Project is prioritize what areas should be redeveloped first.

"We have worked with the community from the grass roots level. This is what they have told us. Here`s where we think the priorities would be as we look out over the next 5 to 10 years," said Kelvin Hullet, the President of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce.

Four task forces have been working on how to redevelop Mandan`s education, economy, destinations and leadership. Among several items, polls reveal that the people want to make Mandan into a place for business and young professionals as well as families and recreation.

"They`re really interested in the outdoor activities, hiking, biking, skiing," said Hullet.

"We see a real opportunity for us to bridge partnerships with our community and with the higher education systems," said Kirsten Baesler, president of the Mandan School Board.

Elected officials made up of the Mandan City Commission, the Morton County Commission, the Mandan Park Board and the Mandan School Board officially adopted the plan and now have to decide how those areas should be implemented.

"We need to take the community another step forward. I think this is just another step in the community`s re-growth or rebirth of the community," said Mayor Tim Helbling.

And make it a better place for the future. The next meeting between the steering committee and the elected officials will be held by the end of the year.
