As one harvesting period is wrapping up, another one is just starting. Producers around the area are gearing up for this year`s sugarbeet harvest, which is set to start later this month. The yield for this year is looking very good, thanks to the warm weather we`ve been having for the last couple of weeks.
"I think this year the sugarbeet crop looks pretty good," says Warren Froelich, the Williams County Extension Agent. "The last two weeks, particularly with this warm weather, stimulated a lot of growth. The representatives of Sidney Sugars tell me that the crop might probably come in at one of the best crops ever. They`re estimating maybe somewhere between 26, 26 1/2 ton per acre, which is a phenomenal crop for this area."
Culbertson, Savage, Miles City, Glendive, and the Buford/Trenton region will be key areas for this year`s harvest.
