Federal buyouts of flood-damaged homes is not just an issue in eastern North Dakota. Residents of the southwest North Dakota town of Mott might also be given the option to sell homes that were damaged by spring flooding.
Ken Davis with the Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council says getting Federal Emergency Management Agency money for voluntary
buyouts in Mott is not a certainty, but it might become an option.
If so, he says about 10 homes in the city limits and a few outside might be eligible.
Mott Mayor Troy Mosbrucker says the problem with a buyout program is the lack of other housing in the area for those who sell
their homes.
Hettinger County was declared a federal disaster area last spring because of damage caused by the flooding of the Cannonball River.
