Name of Train Accident Victim Released
Kevin Gribble
10/12/2009
Authorities say a sport utility vehicle was struck by a freight train at a railroad crossing east of Larimore, killing the SUV driver. The Highway Patrol says 63-year-old Darvin Friederich of McCanna was trying to drive across the tracks when the train came through about 1:35 p.m. Sunday. Patrol Sgt. Aaron Hummel said the BNSF train with 21 cars and two locomotives could not avoid hitting the SUV even though the crew put on the brakes and sounded the horn. The patrol said Friederich was the only one in the SUV. The crash remains under investigation.
