What do hunters, soldiers, and doctors have in common?
Today, you could find all of them at Capital City Sporting Clays, joining forces to fight cancer.
The Bismarck Cancer Center is holding a three day fundraiser this weekend.
The sound of shots will be echoing across the state this weekend, as pheasant hunters from around the country try their luck shooting birds in North Dakota.
"Hot weather in Florida. Too hot. Sweating all the time. You don`t have that here," says Dennis Fish, of Okeechobee, FL.
While he`s having fun and joking about his time in the state, Fish says he`s glad he can do that while supporting the Cancer Center.
"That`s a wonderful thing, a wonderful thing," he says.
Fish is one of dozens of hunters spending the weekend hunting in North Dakota as part of the fundraiser.
"This is a way that a person enjoying the passions of hunting and the outdoors can combine that with fighting something as serious as cancer," says Roger Krueger, of the Bismarck Cancer Center.
This is the second time the Bismarck Cancer Center has held the three-day fundraiser, that draws people from all over to shoot sporting clays and pheasants.
"We`re hunting from Mott to Bowman to Carson to Medora on land provided by friends and neighbors in North Dakota showing people what living in North Dakota is all about," says Krueger.
This year, about 18 men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan were invited along as special guests.
"We bring together our passions for patriotism, for conservation, and for fighting a very serious community concern," Krueger says.
All of that, and having fun at the same time.
Last year, the three day fundraiser brought in $50,000.
Organizers say they hope to exceed that this year.
