North Dakota hospitals are restricting visitors because of the threat of the flu.
Medcenter One disease specialist Dr. Kent Martin said swine flu, or the H1N1 virus, appears to spread more easily in children. Starting Monday, he said, children under 18 are barred from visiting the Bismarck hospital.
MeritCare says it`s restricting visitors at its two Fargo hospitals. Only immediate family members and clergy members who don`t have flu-like symptoms may visit patients. MeritCare also says patients who come to its downtown Fargo emergency center may bring only one person with them.
Officials of Fargo`s Innovis Hospital said Monday that no official visitor restrictions were in place but they are asking visitors with flu-like symptoms to stay away.
In Grand Forks, Altru Hospital also is allowing only immediate family members and clergy who have no flu symptoms to visit patients.
St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck said it has no similar restrictions but will evaluate the conditions. |
