Minot attorney Todd Cresap has been named as North Dakota`s newest district judge.
Gov. John Hoeven appointed Cresap on Monday to a new job in the Northwest Judicial District in Minot. He starts Jan. 1.
The district includes six counties in northwestern North Dakota. With the addition of Cresap, it now has five judges in Minot and two in Williston.
The Legislature established two new district judgeships this year. Hoeven appointed Jamestown lawyer Thomas Merrick to the second position last month. Merrick will be based in Jamestown.
North Dakota`s 44 district judges handle trials, hearings and other proceedings in the state`s civil and criminal courts. The job pays $113,648 annually.
