Day of the Dead | Video
KMOT
11/2/2009
Halloween may have come and gone.

But some students at Minot State University Monday are celebrating a similar Latin American holiday.

Members of MSU`s Spanish Club hosted a Day of the Dead celebration for the community.

They enjoyed Latin American food and music as part of the festivities.

The holiday is meant for people to remember loved ones who have passed away.

Many people in Mexico hold overnight vigils at the gravesites of family members and leave gifts for the dead.

"It`s a way to connect children with their grandparents who passed away," Spanish professor John Morrow says, "or their great grandparents. They might spend the evening telling stories about you know you grandfather or your great grandfather, your uncle or your aunt."

This is the fifth year that the Minot State Spanish Club has organized a Day of the Dead celebration.
