The North Dakota Department of Human Services gave Williston residents an opportunity to voice their opinions during a public input meeting earlier today.
Their stop in Williston is part of a statewide tour...and officials are meeting with stakeholders and staff to hear about how the department`s services can be improved.
Because of Williston`s rural location, people are concerned about access to transportation and human service programs...
"Transportation absolutely would be number one," says Carol Olson, the executive director of the Department of Human Services. "I think some of the areas of capacity as far as addressing the needs of some of our mental illness needs and substance abuse. And I do believe the access to service in the rural areas. I think we need to address those, look for creative ways to reach those folks who are in rural North Dakota."
After these meetings end, Olson says the department will use the public`s recommendations as they build their budget next spring.
