Daring Criminals Stealing Minot Cars

| For the past 50 years, Dale Keller has had trust in his community. "It`s an eye opener," says Keller. But a week ago, the trust Keller once had, quickly disappeared. "My daughter came home, parked the car and waited for the door to go down," says Keller. "Then when I woke up at 6:00 a.m. I noticed both of the doors were open and my daughter’s car was gone," says Keller. Keller`s 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander wasn`t the only car stolen that night. Four reports came in. "Last night, we got a call that one vehicle had been taken from the Rolling Hills neighborhood and another vehicle was taken from northwest Minot," says Sgt. Larry Hubbard, Ward County Sheriff`s Department Hubbard says he believes all of the car thefts are connected. "We`ve seen this before but not at this magnitude," says Hubbard. Hubbard says there was a trend with the cars that were taken. The side doors of people garages were unlocked and keys were left in the car. This made it very easy for the criminals to succeed in their mission. "We`ve interviewed people about this before, they call it ‘car shopping,’" says Hubbard. Authorities were able to locate Keller`s car, but they are still looking for a 2004 Red/Maroon Chevrolet Avalanche with North Dakota License Plate HZR 849 and 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that didn`t have license plates. "If you see something suspicious, call. It`s your neighborhood you`re protecting," says Hubbard. Keller hopes he can regain the trust he once had for his neighborhood. "We`ve pulled our keys from the car, locked our door and got ourselves a dog," says Keller. |
