Senator Byron Dorgan will chair two official Senate field hearings with the army corps of engineers and local officials next week to examine options for permanent flood control in Bismarck, Mandan and Mercer and Emmons counties.
Dorgan will hold the hearing on Bismarck-Mandan flood control on Wednesday, November 11, at 7:15 p.m at the Bismarck city county building.
His hearing on flood control in Emmons and Mercer counties will be held Thursday, November 12, with two panels starting at 10 a.m. At the national energy center of excellence on the Bismarck state college campus.
"We`re going to talk about first, the flooding in Bismarck and Mandan, what caused that flooding last spring, what can be done to make sure it doesn`t happen again? What kind of protections might or might not be necessary?" Dorgan says.
Dorgan is chairman of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and all of its flood control projects.
