These shoppers aren`t just buying U.S.-made products. All of the goods at the Pride of Dakota Showcase are from right here in the Peace Garden State.
"It`s keeping money in the state and helping small businesses out," said Sara Kelsch, a marketing specialist for the ND Deptartment of Agriculture.
The two day event at the State Fairgrounds is one of four shows across the state.
Organizers say the showcases are all aimed at getting holiday shoppers to support local businesses and artisans.
"Consumers feel a sense of pride in buying things that are made from their neighbors, friends, and relatives," Kelsch said.
Many sellers like Burlington`s Pointe of View winery use ingredients and materials produced in-state to make their goods.
"We use mostly North Dakota fruits native to the area. Whether it`s apples or chokecheries or rhubarb," Pointe of View`s owner Jeff Peterson said. "90 percent of our product is grown right here in North Dakota."
Workers from this Bison snack meats supplier in Leeds say today`s shoppers appreciate the fact that the animals are raised just minutes away from the company`s warehouse.
"About 75 percent of the people that buy from us ask directly,`Is this a North Dakota product?` Because they want to send it to ther family and friends out of state and they want to make sure it`s a product purchased here and made here," North Prairie Signature`s Janelle Engstrom said.
Organizers expect more than 5000 people to stop by the showcase by the end of the weekend.
They hope to prove that when it comes to buying for the holidays, there`s no place like home. |
