Emily Carson has an impressive record. Here are a few of her local awards:
1) Miss Rodeo Mandan Princess
2) Little Miss Rodeo Prairie Rose
3) Junior Miss Rodeo Prairie Rose
Now, she`s being recognized Nationally.
Remember Alan Miller`s `Try My Job` segment where he tries to learn how to become a rodeo princess? It didn`t go well after he fell off the horse, but luckily he was ok. Emily Carson, the young girl featured in his story, tried to teach Alan how to be the `Rodeo Princess.`
"I wonder if Alan Miller has practiced our queen wave yet, since last time," asked Carson on Sunday.
Sunday, I met up with Emily to talk about a national award she had won, and that was the first question she posed to me. Funny stuff. Although Alan may not be practicing his riding or rodeo princess skills, she has been, and her determination to be the best isn`t going unrecognized. In fact, you can add a national award to her list of accomplishments.
"This award is for girls across the United States who have shown a great deal of skills in horsemanship, and leadership, and being a good rodeo queen in their community," she says. "To me it`s a huge honor, it means that I was picked to be the person, and I`m very ecstatic, and it means I`ll be able to say I won the Hats Off to Rodeo Royalty Award."
She found out she had won this award on Saturday and doesn`t even have the award yet. She found out she was nominated for the award by the 2010 Miss Rodeo North Dakota, which she says is an honor.
If you meet this 13-year old, it`s no surprise she`s doing big things, because her passion for what she does rocks.
"It`s not just about your public speaking or just being able to have a crown, it`s also about being able to ride a horse, and carry flags, and knowning what horses are all about, not just being able to smile," she says.
And she`s also a heck of a teacher for those striving to follow her lead. Well, she needs a good student to be a good teacher.
Emily says her next goal is to be High School Rodeo Queen, and ultimate goal is to be Miss Rodeo America.
