Time Running Out for Livestock Forage Program Applications
Samantha Mehrotra
11/19/2009
Area producers have less than one month apply for the Livestock Forage Program or LFP.

The deadline to apply is December 10, and the local Farm Services Agency says they are still waiting to receive applications from more than half of the county`s ranchers.

Because of last year`s drought, most of the state is eligible to receive compensation for livestock losses. Corey Paryzek, Executive Director for the Farm Services Agency in Williams County, says producers don`t want to miss out on this opportunity, because it puts money back in their pockets.

"It`s a fairly attractive payment as far as the livestock program goes," says Paryzek. "We`ve generally not paid a lot of livestock payments out of our office, but it amounts to about $54 a cow in dollar terms."

Producers will need to know their livestock numbers and pasture acreage information from last year in order to fill out an application.

If you have questions, you can call their office at 572-6729.
