Usually, if a courtroom is full of people facing the judge, it`s because they`re accused of doing something wrong.
But courtroom 204 at the Burleigh County Courthouse was full of foster youth this afternoon, who were there for better reasons.
The court held a Meet the Judge Day, and invited foster kids to come learn about the judicial system.
They got to sit in the judges chair, and try on their robes.
Judge Gail Hagerty says the afternoon was a good way to introduce kids to the human side of the courts.
"They get to see us doing something other than just legal things that are hard for them to understand or things that they aren`t always comfortable with," says Judge Hagerty. "So we hope this will be a time to be comfortable in the courtroom, to maybe see the judge, people who are working in the system as real people."
This was the first year the court held a meet the judge day for foster youth.
They hope to make it an annual event.
