A Fargo company wants to produce diesel from crude in northwest North Dakota to help fuel drilling rigs in the state`s oil patch. An oil industry official says it might be a good idea but it`s risky.
Mike Wavra, president of Dakota Oil Processing LLC, says the company is seeking investors for the project near Trenton. The project would cost at least $180 million and would provide more than 50 jobs in the area.
Wavra says the so-called diesel topping facility could produce up to 567,000 gallons of diesel daily, using crude from the rich Bakken and Three Forks wells in the region.
Ron Ness, president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council, says fuel refiners run on tight margins and a long-term market must exist to be successful and provide returns for investors.
Williston Mayor Ward Koeser says his city has given the diesel project organizers $85,000 for marketing studies and legal work. |
