History On Call | Video

Have you ever thought to yourself, `I wonder what time the Château De Mores opens and if they`re open on a Sunday?` Well if you have, there`s a neat new tool to help you answer that question by calling a number.

701-557-9190, again that`s 701-557-9190. If you have a question about a historic site or an attraction in North Dakota, this number could act as your lifeline.

"It`s another way to promote that hub of history and push that idea that there`s a lot of things going on in North Dakota, a lot of historic sites," says Michael Frohlich, of the State Historical Society.

The State Historical Society in partnership with the US Forest Service teamed together to produce History on Call, a phone service that will allow you to call in, follow the directions, and learn all you want to know about historical points in and around North Dakota.

"Promoting sites, historical sites, whether it`s state historical sites, or US forest service sites, state parks, big bonanza farm, the independent sites we`re promoting, we currently have 40 sites that we promote on the site, from Native American sites, military era sites, settlement area sites, fur trade sites, and up to some more modern sites as well," says Frohlich.

For example, what if you want to learn about the Château De Mores in Medora? Call 701-557-9190.

Follow the directions, and listen in.

History On Call is also set up at the North Dakota Heritage Center, where you can view displays and call this number, and hear all the information you`d like to know about this particular display.

"We can provide additional information, supplemental information in our exhibit gallery, to just kind of enhance that delivery of information, expand the outreach," says Frohlich.

If you didn`t catch the number, again, it`s 701-557-9190.

There`s plans to expand this phone service next year to coordinate with smartphones, so you can get on your Blackberry and download a video with information about a site. Frohlich says if you use this service, your comments are needed, because he wants to make this program accessible for everybody.
