Initial reports from hunters indicate that this fall`s deer hunting season in North Dakota was poorer than in recent years.
Hunters who spoke at a Game and Fish Department advisory board meeting in Bismarck say they saw fewer deer than in past years.
Game and Fish Wildlife Chief Randy Kreil says that is not a surprise. He says that with the record numbers of deer licenses that were available to hunters in the past few seasons and with the brutal winter last year, the whitetail population in the state is down.
Officials will not know for a few months how the poorer season will affect the number of licenses available next year. Kreil says the evaluation of hunter surveys sent out following the season will not be evaluated until February.
