Fighting Crime on Ft. Berthold
12/7/2009
The Three Affiliated Tribes are seeking a

federal grant to help with crime fighting on the Fort Berthold

Reservation.

The grant would be through a Justice Department program called

Operation Weed and Seed, which aims to battle violent crime, drug

trafficking and drug-related crime in designated high-crime

neighborhoods.

It gets its name from "weeding out" criminals and planting the

seeds of crime prevention.

Lynn Jordheim, the acting U.S. attorney for North Dakota, and

two assistant U.S. attorneys recently met with Tribal Chairman

Marcus Levings and other tribal officials about the grant request.

A total of $1 million is available nationally.
