Dickinson is growing, and so is its need for health care.
Because of that, Saint Joseph`s Hospital in Dickinson is making a big move.
It is literally moving.
Patients going to St. Joseph`s Hospital on Sims Street in Dickinson one day soon might have to go to a different part of town. That`s because hospital executives just announced the purchase of 38 acres of land on Dickinson`s west side of town, where they say hopefully one day, they can move the hospital`s operations.
Executives from Catholic Health Initiatives, St. Joseph`s parent company, were in town to finalize a deal with Stark County officials. The hospital agreed to pay $1.2 million dollars for the land near Dickinson`s West River Community Center, which they say is needed to handle the region`s growth.
Jeff Drop, Senior VP of Catholic Health Initiatives, says, "There won`t be more bed space. There would be different configuration space. There would be a massive out patient unit, a 25 bed inpatient unit. We`ll be able to do much more things than we`re able to do now, because everything will be configured around health care in 2010, 2011, or whatever it is. It will be brand new stuff."
Hospital Executives say the move demonstrates St. Joseph`s commitment to the community, and the region.
"This just cements everything in western North Dakota, because Dickinson and our hospital here is doing so well, we`re just happy to say again we have a bright future here," Drop adds.
The hospital says it`s too early to say what they`ll do with the current facility on Sims Street, because no specific plans for the new property have been made yet.
City and county leaders say they are pleased with the deal because it supports quality health care in the region. |
