Man Who Escaped from Prison Transport Pleads Guilty

KFYR-TV | 1/4/2012

The man who escaped from a prison transport van at an I-94 rest stop last October will be continuing his journey.

Joseph Megna hid from police for 20 hours in a corn field near Oriska. The van was bringing him to his trial in Washington state for alleged child molestation. It was unlocked and Megna was not restrained.

State prosecutors agreed to let Megna leave Barnes County with time-served if he pleaded guilty. Today, in court, he did just that.

Megna will go directly to Franklin County, Wash., where he is facing class a felony charges for first-degree child molestation.

He is accused of fondling a boy under the age of 12 multiple times. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
