There`s going to be a new mayor in Mandan. Newcomer Arlyn Van Beek, a late addition to the ballot, pulled in the majority of the vote. Van Beek edged out city commissioner Dot Frank by over 700 votes.

Frank has served on the commission for two years. Current mayor Tim Helbling chose not to run again at the end of his term.

"I have big shoes to fill with Tim. Am I willing to do my homework to take his place? Yes, I am. Will I be able to fill his shoes? Probably not. But am I willing to give it my best? Yes, I am," Van Beek said.

Both candidates said property tax is one of the most pressing concerns for Mandan residents.

Van Beek formerly managed Central Market in Mandan.
