"We`ve asked the kids and invited them to join us to help make a lot of different fun things out of duct tape. And we will be doing a fundraiser with it at the blast on the 29th," said Basin United Way President Ryan Ogaard.
It`s the 23rd annual Williston Chamber Blast, but it`s the first time the Basin United Way will be donating duck tape items. Some kids already knew how to make duck tape crafts, and they were there to help newcomers.
"Right now we are making pedals for a pencil flower. You just get a long piece of duct tape, like any kind of duct tape, and we set it along a board then cut two inches for every pedal," said Charlize Hamilton.
There were a few first timers at the event, but they came out for the same reason as everyone else.
"My grandma asked my mom if some of us could help, and I wanted to come out and help when my mom asked," said Emily Burnett.
All of the money made from the duct tape items will be used to help the 32 local non-profit agencies the Basin United Way supports. The goal of today`s event was to get kids involved in the community.
"It`s about having a lot of fun and getting the kids together. Introducing volunteering to them, and helping them understand how doing some good for the community can be a lot of fun at the same time," added Ogaard.
They will be back at the James Memorial Arts Center tomorrow from 3:00 to 8:00 making more duct tape crafts.
