PSC Holds Informal Hearing | Video

Jennifer Joas | 6/20/2012

Pipelines are taking up a good portion of the Public Service Commission`s time. The commission held three informal hearings today. One of them was for an Enbridge Pipeline in Stanley.

Enbridge wants to lay a pipeline 500 feet from a new building. Commissioners say they`re concerned about public safety.

"It`s one thing for a private business or homeowner to issue a waiver. It`s quite another for a county commission to offer a waiver on behalf of whatever group might be aggregated in that particular facility. So I need to work through that a little bit," said Commissioner Kevin Cramer.

Enbridge agreed to increase the thickness of the pipe and bury it deeper underground for safety`s sake.

Commissioners also discussed a Hiland natural gas pipeline in McKenzie County. They will vote on both pipelines at their next meeting.
