The BNSF Special Offers Rides to Employees | Video

Kristin Clouston | 6/21/2012

You don`t generally find passenger trains on the tracks between Mandan and New Salem. But there was one today and there will be another one tomorrow. The BNSF Special is giving rides to railroad employees and their families as a way of saying thank you for their hard work.

The train features 15 restored passenger train cars from the `50s and `60s and is powered by two of the railroad`s newest locomotives.

"They were either from predecessor railroads or acquired over the years and for example there`s a dome car which is always a popular car and you can see out the windows and have a nice view. Other cars have tables, they have seats. We provide snacks and some munchies along the way and everybody has a good ride," said Amy McBeth with BNSF Public Affairs.

BNSF also donated $10,000 to the Missouri Valley YMCA and gave about a hundred campers a ride on the train as well.
