Water Tanker Hits Overpass

Alan Miller | 7/10/2012

A trucker`s failure to get an oversize permit resulted in a damaging collision in Stark County this afternoon. The Highway Patrol says the driver of a salt water tanker from Mann Enterprises in New Town was headed west on I-94, but the truck was too tall to make it under the overpass at the South Heart exit and hit the concrete overhead.

The tank came off the truck and was lodged under the overpass at about 4:30 Mountain Time. Traffic had to be diverted while the wreckage was cleared away.

Damage to the overpass is estimated at $50,000.

The Highway Patrol says if the company had gotten a permit, the driver would have known which overpasses to avoid on the interstate.
