Zoo Animals Coming Home | Video

Jenny Castro | 7/11/2012

We told you last week that the staff at the Roosevelt Park Zoo is back on the campus, with offices in the Visitors Center building. The zoo is still closed to the public, but we have an exciting announcement about the progress there.

The zoo now has some of its animals back at home. Twenty-four of them are settled in at the north side of the river. These animals were previously staying at a warehouse north of Minot since the evacuation, but now both the staff and those animals are getting more comfortable being on the zoo grounds.

"Being up at the warehouse, being on cement the entire time you could tell that it wasn`t quite comfortable for the animals` joints, but now they`re able to be active and moving around more,” said Zookeeper Mitch Thompson.

The rest of the animals are in zoos all over the country right now until the Roosevelt park facility is finished with repairs on buildings, water and electricity.

You can find out where each animal is staying on the zoo`s website.
