Staying Safe in the Heat | Video

Alex Hagan | 7/13/2012

The heat is affecting everyone recently, but it could be worse for workers in construction and the oil fields. With temperatures soaring into the 90`s, the heat can become a real problem for employees spending the majority of their days outside.

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated is important, but health officials say it is essential for workers to stay ahead of the heat.

"It`s going to cut down on productivity and the job production that you have because if something happens, this employee is going to be out for a couple days minimum to get built back up and get hydrated back up and get himself. You know things like nausea and things like that happen and that means this person is going to be out of your workforce for a while," said Joe Wanner with Southwest District Health.

Health officials say if you can keep high stress jobs towards the evening, along with staying hydrated throughout the day, the heat should not be a problem.
