Traffic Lights Operating in Minot Again | Video

Traffic lights in Minot that were knocked out by last year`s flood are now coming back to life, just in time for the North Dakota State Fair. The intersection signal along 27th St. and Burdick Expressway are working again after last year`s flood damaged 10 intersections in Minot.

While the city repaired city-owned lights within a few months of the flood, they`ve had to wait on federal money to come in to repair lights at larger intersections.

The lights have been stripped, painted, and old wires have been pulled to prepare for the new ones.

As City of Minot Traffic Engineer Stephanie Harman explains, the city’s been working hard to get everything up and running again.

"Whether it be the wires, the controllers, what have you, they all have different lead times. Some of those lead times are pretty great and that was part of the hold up, I guess you could call it. More recently is waiting on certain parts to come in. Once the parts came in that were necessary to put it in a functional mode."

Over the next three to four weeks, Main Electric will continue to replace lights at the following intersections:
-8th Ave. SE and Burdick Expressway
-2nd Ave. SW and 16th St. SW
-4th Ave. NW and 16th St. NW
-3rd Ave. NW and 6th St. NW

The overall cost of the project is around $300,000. The city is paying for about 30-35 percent of the costs. Next week, traffic lights at 8th St. and Burdick Expressway will be installed.

All of the traffic lights are expected to be up and running by October 1.
