Judge Sets $15,000 Bail for 14th DUI

Valley News Live | 7/17/2012

A Cass County judge has set bail for a West Fargo man at $15,000 cash on a charge of Driving Under the Influence. That`s because it`s Kevin Tegtmeier`s 14th time.

The amount is $5,000 more than the prosecution asked for. They add the only way to keep Tegtmeier from drinking was to keep him in custody.

"I`ve found that people who are drinking are poor judges of whether they should be driving. At some point, friends and family need to say to people, `I`m taking your keys away. I`ll call you a taxi, but you`re not getting your own way home this time,`" said Cass County State`s Attorney Birch Burdick.

In North Dakota, a DUI is considered a misdemeanor, unless you commit five or more in seven years.
