Revamping Downtown Minot | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 7/31/2012

Plans are in the works to rebuild some historic areas of Minot.

"Currently, with the Cypress Development and `Imagine Minot`, their current plans of investing 95 million dollars to redevelop our downtown," said Minot Area Development Corporation President Jerry Chavez.

Chavez says that the development should take approximately two to three years.

Minot is booming in the commercial area, but what are the plans for housing in downtown Minot?

"There are plans to put up the affordable housing downtown, with additional retail and so it will be a new look for the downtown," said Cookies for You owner Mary Helen Hasay.

Chavez says we should be seeing development in the old `Y` block, which is located a street away from South Main street. He says the location will enable people to work and relax in one location.

"Live in an area but also work in an area and then have the amenities to enjoy the nightlife."

The plan is to hopefully start developing downtown within the next month.
