Governor Seeks FEMA Extension | Video

Jenny Castro | 8/2/2012

For residents in temporary FEMA housing, they`ve been sweating more and more as the Christmas Eve deadline to find housing approaches. Although there is a possibility of an extension, FEMA says they won`t make that decision till it`s closer to the deadline.

However, they might be getting that answer a little sooner now that Governor Jack Dalrymple has decided to seek a six-month extension. Today, the governor sent a letter to the FEMA Regional Director requesting the temporary housing extension. Dalrymple says that it`s necessary for residents in these temporary units to have an answer soon so they can make plans.

“I just wanted to get this request into FEMA right away to be sure that everybody understands that we`re going to have some additional time for people to figure out what they`re housing plans are. It’s just not right to come up on the end of the year during the Christmas holidays and expect people to make a last minute decision about what to do with housing. That`s just not going to work. My hope is that within a week or two certainly they should be able to answer my request."

The six month extension, would allow the residents in temporary FEMA housing to continue using the units through June 24, 2013.
