Fighting Sioux Petitioners Waiting Until December

It seems that the UND Fighting Sioux nickname debate is not over, but another vote on the issue may have to wait until next year. The Spirit Lake Committee for Understanding and Respect and Fighting Sioux Ballot Measures Committee say that they will wait until December to submit their petition packets to the Secretary of State`s office.

"Quite simply, we did not want our issue grouped in with several of the others which will be up in November; issues that were not apparent when we first started our efforts," said Sean Johnson, a sponsoring committee member.

The deadline to turn in the 27,000 signatures needed is December 12.
