No Veterans Running | Video

Jessica Roose | 8/14/2012

The general election is quickly approaching and over the weekend the Republican nominee for President, Mitt Romney chose his running mate, Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. While there are plenty of differences between the Republican pair and the Obama/Biden ticket, there is one thing they have in common.

None of them have served in the military.

University of Mary Political Science professor Mark Springer says the last time there wasn`t a veteran in the race for president was in 1932, but he says it could become more common.

"We haven`t had large scale wars the United States has been involved with. I mean, there has always been periods throughout American history where people participated in war. So that gave you the experience and the draft ended in 1973 and so people weren`t required then to be drafted."

We`ll have more on this story tonight on the Evening Report.
