National 9/11 Flag Comes To Minot | Video

Jenny Castro | 8/15/2012

Minot will be part of an honorary national flag tour. The 9-11 Flag is one of the largest American flags to fly above the wreckage at Ground Zero. It was stitched back together by survivors of the tornado in Greensburg, Kansas. And is now part of the annual 9-11 remembrance, New York Says Thank You, where a community project is built.

Wednesday, it was announced that the flag will be making it`s next stop at Minot State University in honor of Ann Nicole Nelson, who was the only North Dakotan lost in 9-11 and also to recognize the flood disaster of last summer. The Stars Of Hope which started in Greensburg will also be coming to Minot along with the flag, which has been in all fifty states.

“The national 911 flag has traveled to all 50 states including Pearl Harbor, Fort Hood, Texas, The USS Missouri, the Kentucky Derby, the funeral for two who were shot in the Tuscan shootings and on September 5th, Minot State University,” says Matt Deighton, a survivor of the Greesnburg tornado.

“This is terrific for Minot State to be a part of this and contribute to it in many ways and I see our students participating, I see our faculty and staff participating and I look forward to this,” says Dr. David Fuller, president of Minot State University.

On Wednesday, September 5th a mini-build in Minot will take place. On Thursday, the Flag will be escorted to Minot and then Burlington and then the documentary film, "New York Says Thank You" will be showing at MSU. On Friday, the Stars of Hope will be painted by the Longfellow Elementary students and on Saturday the stars will be placed around the flood zones.
