School zones are empty now, but tomorrow morning crosswalks will be filled with students on the way to their first day of school.. With some extra activity going on in town, getting your kids to school might take a little longer than normal. The Williston Police Department will have a close eye on school zones the next few days to make sure drivers take their time driving past schools.
“Our roadways are narrow in our school zones, and to really slow down their speeds and really pay attention to their driving. Stay off their electronic devices, and just watch for those little ones crossing the road. They can jump out and dart out in front of traffic quickly. We just encourage our drivers to slow down and pay attention in those school zones,” said Detective David Peterson of the Williston Police Department.
If you are pulled over for going too fast in a school zone you get a speeding ticket, and additional fines for speeding in a school zone.
