After ten years of planning, Minot State University has cut the ribbon for their new student Wellness Center. The ceremony had many city and state leaders in attendance, including Governor Jack Dalrymple and Senator John Hoeven.

The new $12.8 million facility was funded mostly by student fees and some additional campus funds. The three story, 57,000 square foot facility is exclusive to students. With exercise space, three intramural courts, weight and cardio rooms and a 35 foot rock climbing wall.

"This demonstrates a big part of who we are and what we should be doing it engages our students on campus, it devotes their time to wellness and health and it shows that we are very concerned about the future of our students and that happens very often through healthy activity," said MSU President Dr. David Fuller.

"Everyone that comes through says this is more than I expected, they`re very impressed with the building and once you get inside and start looking around and just seeing what`s available it speaks for itself," said center director Paul Brekke.

The new wellness center facility is also one of five buildings on the Minot State campus using their new geothermal energy system.
