Sewer Project to Help Southwest Minot | Video

Amy Fox | 8/27/2012

In 2006, a study was conducted by the city of Minot to find how they could improve the sanitary waste system for residents living on the southwest side of town. Now, the city is putting the survey results into action.

The Minot Puppy Dog Sanitary Sewer Line Expansion Project will develop the sanitary waste system just south of the Wal-Mart complex.

With many septic systems failing, the sewer expansion will provide healthier water levels for people. The project will also open up 3,000 acres for future housing projects.

"The trunk sewer is the main sewer line that all other developments around there can run their sewer lines down into tie into. So, it basically conveys the flows out to our lift stations and then gets pumped out to our lagoons and our wet lands,” said Public Works Director Dan Jonasson.

The project is being paid for by the Land Grant funds and Corp of Engineers 594 funds.

The environmental assessment will be completed in November with construction beginning next spring.
